The Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids (ICCR) is proud to offer Salaam Sunday School, a vibrant program dedicated to nurturing the Islamic education of children since its establishment in 1976. This program is tailored to meet the needs of children living in the United States, blending traditional Islamic learning with contemporary educational practices.

Key Offerings of Salaam Sunday School

1. Quran Memorization

Students engage in Quran memorization under the guidance of teachers with strong backgrounds in Quranic studies.

2. Arabic Language Learning

Children learn to read Arabic with classes individualized by grade level and ability, ensuring every child progresses at their own pace.

3. Islamic Studies

These classes focus on building knowledge of Islamic teachings, history, and values, and are designed to suit the age and grade level of the students. Teachers bring either an education degree or extensive teaching experience.

4. Interactive Curriculum

The school uses a specialized curriculum that resonates with the experiences of children growing up in the United States, making Islamic teachings relevant and accessible.

  • Salaam School teaches from pre-school to 8th grade.

  • The program runs on Sunday from 9:45 AM until 2:30 PM.

    The schedule is as follows:

    • 9:45: Drop Off

    • 10:00-10:55: Quran Classes

    • 11:00-11:55: Arabic Classes

    • 12:00-12:30: Lunch Break

    • 12:30-2:30: Dhuhr Prayer & Islamic Studies

    • 2:30-2:35: Pickup

  • Our program is taught by a group of parents, community members, and volunteers. The Quran and Arabic teachers are skilled and qualified, and are thoroughly screened by the Imam as well as the Education Committee to ensure competence. The Islamic Studies teachers are either born or raised in the United States or have thorough understanding of the social development of children. The full staff is dedicated to working with your children.

  • Registration for the 2023-2024 school year is closed. Registration for the 2024-2025 school year opens September 8, 2024. The registration form will be on this page once it opens.

Volunteer Opportunities at Salaam School

Salaam School is always in need of volunteers. Opportunities include:

1. Listening to Students Read Quran

Assist students as they practice Quran recitation, providing encouragement and guidance.

2. Lunch Helpers

Help younger students set up and clean up during lunch, ensuring a smooth and organized meal time.

3. Project Helpers

Support students with various classroom projects, making learning interactive and engaging.

4. Assisting in Islamic Studies Classes

Help with projects and crafts in Islamic Studies classes, enhancing students' learning experience.
